The next meeting on Thursday 16th September is a talk by Beryl Jones entitled "Nicholas Blundell - the life and times of a Lancashire squire in the early 18th century" 2010 Open Day The Society will be holding its annual Open Day on Saturday 25th September at the St Cuthbert's Parochial Hall in Churchtown.
The society will have a help desk, its extensive library of family and local history books, a large tithe map of North Meols, various records on microfiche, and publications for sale. As well as other displays, Southport Movie Makers will be showing an historic film entitled 'Centenary Celebrations in Curchtowm & Portrait of a Village' Some photos from last year's event can be viewed on the North Meols FHS News page Doors are open from 11am until 4pm, and admission is free
Southport Library Southport's town centre library has now closed, and is expected to remain shut for nearly 3 years. A temporary lending library has now opened in the Southport Visiter building on Tulketh Street. The local history department has moved to Formby library. ~~~~~
Members Photos A number of interesting old photos submitted by members have been added to the web site recently, so go and have a look and see if you recognise anybody. The latest additions were sent in by Simon Todd.

Old Photos of Southport One of our members has sent us some copies of photographs from a 'Southport Official Guide of the Corporation' dated 1908. These show a number of views around Lord Street and the Promenade. Although there have been many changes over the years, most of the locations are still recognisable. The photos can be found on the Around North Meols page ~~~~~ New Publications Three new publications are now available. Birkdale in Camera, containing early photographs of the Southport suburb, When I Went A Walking by Peter Dyer, and Formby and Freshfield Through Time - a selection of more than 180 photographs tracing the development of Formby and Freshfield over the last century. Details of these, and other publications can be found on the Publications for Sale page ~~~~~ Joyce Gregson Award The Joyce Gregson award has been presented to Dave Gregson for all the work he has undertaken for the society in 2008. Chairman Linda Roberts is pictured below presenting the award to Dave at the February meeting.
