The Joyce Gregson Award 2008

has been awarded to

Monumental Inscriptions

Update: February 2008.

A lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes during the last 18 months and it is hoped to begin Phase 2 of this ambitious project in the very near future.  Member S. Baxter generously gave copies of his digital images of the gravestones at St Cuthbert’s to the Society and these have been sorted and given grave references to correspond with the maps of the churchyard drawn by Hon. Member W. Perrin.

As usual we will be seeking volunteers to undertake the transcription of these images, and we would also like local members to volunteer to visit the graveyard during the summer months to check stones where the location is in doubt or the inscription has been obscured on the photograph by such things as flower holders or long grass.

In the meantime we continue to provide a look-up service for the inscriptions which have already been transcribed.
